crysis: is your pc upto it?

 

There is a lot of confusion as to whether lower power/DirectX 9 computers will be able to run the graphical DX10 masterpiece Crysis (or any DX10 game for that matter).

Even the bloke in the screen can't take his eyes off the beautifully rendered grass...and he's got people shooting at him.

The short answer is: Yes. In fact, EA announced Crysis will run on 3-year-old machines (probably really slowly) giving most people a shimmer of hope.

In reality, any new-ish graphics card will be able to run Crysis; DirectX 9 cards will run software emulation for DirectX 10 tech (SM 4.0 etc) and, although it may be slower, the outcome is almost identical.

What do you get with DX10? Well for one thing, it supports texture sizes of 8192x8192 + other instructions, registers and 'visual technologies' to speed up rendering and make stuff look nicer.
